It is an open-air museum, on the edge of the beach and dependent on the School of Armaments of the Chilean Navy.
The Municipal Council of Viña del Mar approved it as a historic and architectural building on May 9, 2000.
Since 1962, abandoned cannons that were installed aboard warships and other armaments, such as torpedoes, anti-submarine and antiaircraft weapons, are displayed in front of the Navy Weapons School.
Each cannon has its history (some plates have been stolen) and are well preserved, however, maritime air will surely damage them in the long run, although their mouths are well covered, which ensures at least that the interior is in good condition. conditions .
Its mission is to make known to the community the different pieces of artillery used in naval units.
