The Comenius Garden is a publicly accessible garden at the Bohemian Village in Berlin-Neukölln. The sponsoring association is the Förderkreis Böhmisches Dorf in Berlin-Neukölln e. V. the state is being subsidized by the state of Berlin. The Primátor of Prague and the Governing Mayor of Berlin are the patrons of the garden.
The Comenius Garden takes ownership of Richardstraße 35 and is therefore located directly on the Bohemian Village (also known as Bohemian Rixdorf) and thus in the center of Rixdorf. Karl-Marx-Straße runs directly parallel to Richardstraße. In the future there will be descendants of the Bohemian religious refugees who have been allowed to settle there since 1737. At the same time, the contract between refugee families from contemporary conflict regions of the world and the residential communities in the area is high.
The "Richardsburg", a protected tenement barracks, has been on the 1.2 hectare property since 1905. After its demolition in 1971, various concepts of identity were considered. Planning for the Comenius garden began in the first few years. In 1992 the former Czech and Slovak Federal Republic thanked the Bohemians in the 18th century with a Comenius monument. Alexander Dubček, President of the Parliament, oversees it on the still fallow land. Planning can then be accelerated. The garden architects Cornelia Müller and Jan Wehberg died the garden with the scientific advice of Henning Vierck, the new manager. On June 11, 1995, the defense was.
The garden is a historical reconstruction of the work of Johann Amos Comenius (1592–1670). That is reflected on two more broader ones. On the one hand, a tour has been laid out that traces a person's life path; on the other hand, topics from various works and the scientific taste environment of Comenius are taken up. Conversely, the garden architecture guidelines become topics that are intended to encourage visitors to continue to belong to them. The connection between Comenius and the garden is - seen from the monument - not seen, not startled only in an oral explanation. Exhibition on interests. The means of design come from the tradition of garden architecture. In addition to flower beds, meadows, avenues and other plantings, a pond and water basin were created, arbor differentiated and sculptures improved.
For the “path of life” that man can follow in a tour, he was judging the representation in the Pampaedia (all-education) of Comenius. However, other didactic works were used. It shows the life of a person as a series of schools. The design gradually affects parts of the neighborhood via the rights.
Soul paradise

Latin school
The path began at the end of Richardplatz in Walnussbaum. They say the school of prenatal development. From the perspective of the school reformer already gilds here that the associated rights, so that what a good life is possible.
You have to go through a playground that is in contact with the mother’s shoulders, including the pre-school education, through a gate on the garden property, into the area of the common school. All children, of class and gender, are seen together in their mother tongue. The children have received educational sales that introduce them to everyone else in the world. This school is divided into six classes: Violet bed, rose grove, meadow carpet, maze, medicine garden and soul paradise. Comenius himself used these names (in Latin) for these classes. The following plants and the displays for the didactic tasks were ideal for creating your personal garden. Further motifs were changed to the other works of Comenius. The soul paradise has the shape of a gazebo that invites reflection.
Through in Tor you enter the Latin school, which is the beginning of the Comenius monument. This school was war for the children who were in favor of higher education. They have learned the European lingua franca and scientific language Latin and have received another educational access in this language, in which they deepen their own. There were no class specifications for the design, but other works were used that were part of the school lessons in this phase. Pictures on the right wall refer to the Orbis sensualium pictus. The stage in front of it on Schola ludus (school as a game) and Triertium Catholicum (general trinity).
Continuing in the direction of Richardstraße, Mann comes to the academy area, which stands for universities and research institutions.
Decision-making man through the garden gate on Richardstrasse and in the Bohemian Village, which is a theme in the conception of the garden for the school of the profession. The existing settings of a senior citizens' club were to be connected with the old age school in the Pampaedia.
From the Bohemian village the path leads through Deutsch-Rixdorf via Richardplatz with the historic smithy and Kirchhofstraße to the Böhmischer Gottesacker. This 18th century cemetery is still born today by the three communities of the Rixdorf Bohemia. In relation to the path of life, he represents the school of death or the heavenly academy. If you injure him on the other side, you will see yourself close to the walnut tree, the beginning of the tour.
