Teutoburger Platz is located in the Rectangular Park in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg. The approximately 8,250 m² city square is shortened by Zionskirchstrasse, Christinenstrasse, Fehrbelliner Strasse and Templiner Strasse.
The Teutoburger Platz district was built between 1860 and 1875. At that time it was one of the most densely populated residential areas in Berlin (187 inhabitants per 100 m²). Teutoburger Platz called "Teute" for short.
In 1880 the square was planted with trees. Today you can find locust trees, birches and mountain ash trees there. The development of the division area and the square around 1900. In 1910 the green area became a playground.
Square house
In the last 1920s the square was redesigned according to plans by the garden architect Erwin Barth. For Teutoburger Platz, Barth drew the garden plan and the plan for the shelter, which is now called the Platzhaus. This is an important articulated facade that leads to the square and through three arched entrances. Behind it was a lounge with seating. The hipped roof of the house had a lantern as well as a design feature that allowed various daylight into the interior of the legal influence. After 1945, the square building was led with a flat roof and served as a transformer house. In 1997 the hipped roof of the house was restored in a simplified form. These are the meeting points for residents, for games, for art exhibitions or for flea markets and can be rented for private events by the sponsoring association Menschen am Teute.
He left the playground with around 2000 m² and was in the quarter of the total area of the square. The rest consists for the most part of a lawn area, which is particularly popular in summer when driving as a lying right, and a strip of trees all around. At the edge of this green area is a historic cast iron hand pump.
Drip well
The three-part plastic sandstone group Froschkönig by the sculptor Stephan Horota has stood in the middle of the square since 1989. The drip fountain consists of a base with a water outlet on which the frog belongs. Offset from this, a water catchment basin and personal relationships include a pedestal with a crouching girl.
For a long time the civil rights activist Bärbel Bohley on Teutoburger Platz. After two years in Bosnia on the Balkan Peninsula, she resides in her old apartment in 2008.
To the east of the square is the grounds of the Pfefferberg political brewery. The buildings of the industrial monument are now predominantly influenced by the settings and gallery conditions. There is also the elementary school on Teutoburger Platz here. The neighboring house is at Fehrbelliner Straße 92, the beginning of the 20th century as a Jewish kindergarten was a war. He's secured himself among the rental shops in the building.
