Very close to the main entrance of the Castle, the large baroque palace of the Counts of Šternberk houses a part of the European collections of the National Gallery. If you are planning to spend a few days in Prague, visit this beautiful palace and collection on display.
The collection stands out mainly for its diversity: we went through the ancient bronzes to the Italian details, the Byzantine icons to the Tuscan retables and the Flemish landscapes. For those who have enough time, the museum has some surprises. Magnificent portraits lined up alongside the visit: Fayoum's Women of Disconcerting Realism, Leonor de Toledo by El Bronzino with the face of Pocelana, a portrait of Goya's hand of penetrating psychology, and even paintings by Rubens, brilliant and rich ... At the end of the visit, Dürer will be observing everything with authoritarian eyes from the second part of one of his masterpieces: he will be watching with authoritarian eyes from the background of one of his masterpieces: The Celebration of the Rosary.
