The park is part of the Solar da Boa Vista, royal residence and the emperors of Brazil from 1822 and 1889 - when the Republic was proclaimed. It has an area of 155 thousand square meters, landscaped in 1869 according to a project of the French landscape architect Auguste Glaziou. Entering through the side gates, the visitor traverses the Alameda das Sapucaias and the romantic route, which still has lakes, caves and nooks in its imperial gardens. The large gardens are home to the National Museum and the City Zoo, as well as a playground, picnic spots and restaurants.
