The 102.5 ha New Garden is located in the north of Potsdam on the Jungfernsee. Across the water belongs to the gardens of Sacrow, to Pfaueninsel, to Glienicke and Babelsberg, to a certain role in the garden landscape. Despite reshaping by Lenné, sentimental individual parts from the phase v 1800 have been preserved.
Its history belongs to the purchase of an actual property by Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm (II.). In 1787, the year after the accession to power, the construction of the New Garden began, which programmatically included its name in the departure from the old Baroque Sanssouci Park. The Wörlitz gardener Johann August Eyserbeck was earned as a designer, and the representation of the English gardens-oriented ideal of Friedrich Wilhelm was guaranteed.
The purchase of rights over several years was unfavorable for the uniform character of the garden. In addition to several personal houses between 1787 and 1792, new buildings changed in the garden, many of which are still today: marble palace, kitchen in the form of a Roman temple ruin, Gothic library, shingle shark, Mehr, eichheich. Before the latter rights, interests of pyramid poplars (pyramid oaks since 1864), prototype for the Prussian road construction. In the gardens, the character of the political buildings or plantings is determined.
In 1816, Peter Joseph Lenné gestured over the overgrown and outdated garden on behalf of the heir to the throne. Under Conservable Rights and Limits to Dense Woods, the New Garden has great views and meadow spaces, more visible routes and, above all, the visual connections to the neighboring gardens Lenné's basic structure is still preserved. Cecilienhof Palace, built for the Crown Prince in 1913-1917, fits in very harmoniously. A 13 hectare area, the 1960-1990 as border area-related war, is expected again.
