The National Palace of Pena, also known simply as Palácio da Pena, located in the historic town of Sintra, represents one of the best expressions of nineteenth-century architectural Romanticism in the world. On July 7, 2007, it was elected as one of the seven wonders of Portugal, being in fact the first romantic palace in Europe, built about 30 years before the charismatic Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria.
The Pena Palace is the highest exponent in Portugal of the Romanticism of the 19th century. It is the most important center of the Cultural Landscape of Sintra-World Heritage.
