It was on September 21, 1996 when the building was reopened, whose restoration involved the investment of one hundred million pesos, but this time with its new category of Municipal Theater.
Since then, the place has hosted important cultural visits from the world of dance, music, theater, cinema and other artistic manifestations, which has brought them closer to the thousands of porteños in general who do not have access to them. Presentations by La Tropa, the Theater of Silence, Inti-Illimani, Congreso, Pedro Aznar, the Valparaíso Film Festival, among others, are just a small sample of that.
It is expected that it will become the cultural symbol of the first Port of Chile.
Located on Avenida Uruguay 450, corner of Pedro Montt, it is located a few steps from the National Congress, in front of Plaza O'Higgins.
Valparaíso is located 112 km. from Santiago de Chile.
There are several alternatives to get to Valparaíso:
By bus
The trip takes 1 hour 45 minutes from Santiago. Existing departures with a frequency of 15 minutes, the bus companies offer a good level of service and comfort.
By car
For those who wish to arrive by car from Santiago, they should take Route 68, the estimated travel time being 1 hour and 30 minutes.
But the Municipal also represents an outstanding architectural attraction, being a building with a marked Art Nouveau influence that is characterized by its repeated curves, Peruvian plush armchairs, bronze handrails, satin curtains and many other details of a clear classical line arranged in ornamentation.
An interesting place to discover part of the history that Valparaíso writes today, in which there is once again a Municipal Theater while the port continues to feel how the sea caresses its silhouette of a gnawed city.
