São Paulo Municipal Theater is one of the most important theaters of the city and one of the postcards of the São Paulo capital, both for its architectural style similar to that of the most important theaters in the world, and clearly inspired by the Paris Opera, as well as its historical importance. , as it was the stage of the Modern Art Week of 1922, the initial milestone of Modernism in Brazil.
The theater was built to meet the desire of the São Paulo elite of the time, who wanted the city to live up to the great cultural centers of the time, as well as promote opera and concert. It currently houses the São Paulo Municipal Symphony Orchestra, Experimental Repertory Orchestra, Lyric Choir, the Paulistano Choir and the Ballet of São Paulo. The building has been part of the State Historical Heritage since 1981, when it was listed by the Condephaat.
