Understood on the territory on the left bank of the river Guadiana, it stands in a dominant position over the old medieval village. From its walls we can see the surrounding plain with the Castle of Monsaraz to the North, and the border with Spain to the East.
The castle is composed of medieval walls, erected in a curious apparatus that combines schist stones, marble and granite, reinforced by six towers of quadrangular plan. In it the doors are torn, flanked by turrets, some in ogival arch in the Gothic style. Between the towers stands the one of menagements, in gothic style, with door opening towards the place of arms.
It is classified as Property of Public Interest by Decree published on July 18, 1957.
