Currently occupied by the Pousada da Rainha Santa Isabel, the old medieval Royal Palace was adapted to a war warehouse in the reign of King João V (1707-1750) in 1736, with Carlos Andreis providing technical assistance for the works. It is one of the best examples of the Baroque Joãoino in Estremoz, with a pentagonal plan and flanked by cylindrical turrets. Of note: the trapezoidal courtyard with a central fountain with marble dolphins fountain; the staircase of access to the Hall of Arms with two types of tile panels, one to blue and white with baroque stripes and naturalistic arabesques, inspired by the Oriental tapestry, and another one of floral, 18th century Johannine floral motifs; the Hall of Arms, where there are still some gilt and polychrome doors with royal shields.

In the center of the medieval village stands the Keep, one of the best preserved in the country. At about 27 meters high, it has a quadrangular plant and is crowned with merlons in pyramidal form. Typical of the Portuguese military architecture of the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries, it is what remains of the primitive alcáçova, together with the thirteenth-century building of the Paços do Concelho. On the second floor there is a beautiful octagonal room with columns of animalistic and anthropomorphic capitals.
On the terrace are the so-called Three Crowns, representing, according to some authors, the three reigns in which the works of its implantation took place.
In the main face, in the South, the arms of D. Afonso III (1245-1279) are represented with two angels protecting them.
