His life-size bronze statue by Don Víctor Bisagne, an Italian sculptor, was brought from Europe through Lake Maracaibo. It stands on a granite pedestal and represents the heroine at the moment of being sacrificed. She is in night clothes, because the Spanish soldiers who captured her at her farm in "Urimaco", just 15 kilometers from San José Cúcuta, to the west, did not allow her to take street clothes when they arrested her, at dawn on the 21 October 1813, as they did not allow her to put on shoes, that is why she is on clean foot, apparently they led her tied up from Urimaco to this Villa for her execution.
Located on 8th Avenue, between 8th and 9th streets.
It is the monument to the heroine of the Independence of Colombia Doña Mercedes Ábrego de Reyes.
