The Malakoff Tower was built at the time of the heroic defense of Sevastopol during the Crimean War (1853-1855). On one side of the trench, the Russians, and on the other, the allied army, made up of English, French, Turks, and Italians from the Piedmont region. The Crimean war, a peninsula in the south of Ukraine, was a fundamentally naval clash, fought on the Black Sea and had as its bloodiest and most striking episode the siege of the seaport city of Sevastopol. The highlight of the newspapers across Europe was the focus of resistance in defense of the hill and the fortified tower of Malakoff. In spite of the Russian defeat the resistance in Malakoff is remembered like one of the most important moments of Military History.
