The set of defenses of the city presents incomplete plan in the form of an irregular pentagon, marked by nine bastions of square and / or pentagonal plan and five access ways. Unlike other sets, it is not located in a dominant position on the ground, but rather at the ria.
Lagos Castle, in the Algarve, is located in the city and municipality of the same name, District of Faro, in Portugal.
The defensive system of Lagos, with few vestiges of the medieval fortification, is classified like National Monument.
