The town was founded on February 9, 1909 by Marcos Reyes, Eduardo Tascón,

Lisímaco Saavedra, among others, at the site formerly known as

Beaches.

Ordinance No. 9 of December 15, 1954 elevated it to the category of municipality.





Geneva is a city belonging to the department of Valle del Cauca, in Colombia.

Every year in June, the Mono Núñez Colombian Andean Music Festival is held in Geneva, named in honor of the great bandolist composer, Don Benigno ´´el Mono´´ Núñez. This event over the years became the most famous in the country and brings together the best singers, composers, interpreters and ensembles of string music and thousands of visitors from all corners of Colombia and abroad.

Its territory includes flat and mountainous areas, its climate varies from warm to mountainous. The main rivers are: Guabas, Zabaletas and Paporrinas.

Economy:

Its main economic activities are livestock and agriculture, highlighting the crops of sugar cane, coffee, rice, beans, soybeans, corn, cassava, fruit trees (grape, blackberry, tree tomato, citrus and legumes).





The main tourist attractions are the Red Bridge, the Stone Bridge, the Church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the Hacienda la Esmeralda, a house from the Republican period located in the foothills, which preserves the arrangement of the colonial houses looking towards the Valley and the festival del Mono Núñez in June. You can also visit the Hacienda Santa Bárbara, owned by the Saavedra family, heirs of Don Lisímaco Saavedra and one of the founders of the town.

Geneva is famous among lovers of good food, it has no rival in its famous chicken stew cooked on a wood stove and of course other varieties such as atollado rice, banana toasts and white manjar.

This city is reached by a highway that brings together beautiful surroundings and colonial estates.



The sites to visit are Puente Piedra, Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Hacienda la Esmeralda, a Republican period house located in the foothills, preserving the layout of the colonial houses looking towards the Valley.

The Festival del Mono Núñez is the most important event of Colombian Andean music that takes place in the city of Geneva (Valle del Cauca), one hour from Cali.

The greatest and most virtuous composers and performers of this genre of folk music meet there.

The event is also the most important competition of this musical genre that has become a launching pad for artists at an international level, since several of its contestants have been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, in the traditional music category.

The Festival del Mono Núñez comprises four days, where Colombian Andean music is performed from 9 in the morning until 2 in the morning. The festival takes place every year on the first holiday bridge in June.
