Raised in one of the highest points of the mountain range of Ossa, in the center of the town, from the top of its walls dominates a great extent around, until the Castle of Estremoz.
The castle, in stone masonry and granite stonework, features a quadrangular plan with circular turrets at the vertices, blending elements of the Gothic style with the Renaissance style of Italian inspiration. Internally it is divided into three floors, with vaulted ceilings, based on stone pillars. In the wider turrets at the base than at the top, the visors are torn. The cloths are decorated with knots carved in stone, typical of Manueline style.
The castle and the fence of the village were considered as National Monument by Decree published on June 23, 1910.
