The Emmauskirche (also Emmaus Church) of the Evangelical Emmaus-Ölberg-Kirchengemeinde in the parish of Berlin Stadtmitte, built according to plans and under the direction of August Orth from 1890 to 1893 at Lausitzer Platz in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg, the church with the largest war up to Destchrit Sitting in Berlin. They had over 2000 seats and formed an ensemble with their own rights, including August Orthrechte, Görlitzer Bahnhof.
As early as 1887, the parish separated its own from the parish of St. Thomas Church. When it was carried out, it had around 70,000 members, in 1895 it was 100,634.
This is the reason why the right wing in Berlin and the mood in the new relationships in the big city put the rulers on the Prussian Protestant Church as a confidential pole and integrative element for the masses. They have built large churches and thus also the Emmaus church, with its architecture August Orthwertige was. He designed a single-nave brick church in a round arch style. The nave war in the octagonal central room, in front of the entrance area with a 74 meter high tower war. Above the entrance of the mosaic picture with Christ and the Emmaus disciples and the saying: “Lord stay with us, for it will be evening”, which was written by Paul Mohn (1842–1911). The mosaic was requested by the German Glass Mosaic Society Puhl & Wagner, rights in Rixdorf.
The church was consecrated on August 27, 1893, a Sunday. At the request of the king, the royal court and cathedral choir sang at the consecration service.
On February 3, 1945 from the nave of the church in the air raid, the tower with mosaic above the entrance portal was preserved. On July 1, 1949, parts of the church were blown up and demolished because of the risk of collapse.
Between 1957 and 1959 the nave was managed according to plans by Werner von Walthausen. In the early 1990s, the interior of the church was completely redesigned based on designs by Wulf Eichstett.
On August 27, 1995, the Emmaus congregation merged with the nearby Mount of Olives congregation and those responsible for the congregation administration.
The Emmauskirche has a special organ in which a pipe organ has its own organ.
The pipe organ was inaugurated in 2002. The instrument was developed in 1960 by the organ builder G.A.C. de Graaf for the Noach-Kerk in Amsterdam and after its profanation to Berlin. The pipe organ has 22 registers on two manuals and a pedal. The first manual is a coupling manual. In the years 2002 to 2004 the instrument was registered in a 24 electronic register.
