Raised in the hillside, on top of a hill in a dominant position over the village and the river Guadiana, it integrates an impressive defensive set erected throughout the centuries.
The Castle of Elvas, in the Alentejo, is located in the city and Municipality of Elvas, District of Portalegre, Portugal.
The castle was the first property to be classified as a National Monument in the country, by Decree published since October 9, 1906.
