Completely rebuilt at the time of the visitation of 1534, the date of its foundation is unknown, only that it was already cured at this time. The place where it is implanted belonged to the Herdade de Mamporcão, toponym existing since the Middle Ages, as nickname of the owner of the same, but of which the meaning is unknown.
The main structure of the church, the body, may indicate, for its simplicity, a post-Manueline work, but it is difficult to prove since it is a model that is still used later in popular constructions. Moreover, the signs of later structural work are so numerous that it becomes difficult to glimpse what will become of the original building.
Thus, in the exterior, the church, in its facade, presents / displays a triangular pediment very simple, with the bell to the left and bell of beginnings of century XIX. The outer covering of the apse seems to have been built in the seventeenth century.

The interior is also unpretentious, with the exception of the main chapel, with some typical elements of the eighteenth century and the respective altarpiece, baroque of the reign of King João V (1707-1750). Also interesting and typical in rural settings, is the nucleus of ex-votos in oil on canvas and copper plate of the nineteenth century. Also Baroque but earlier, from the reign of D. Pedro II (1675-1706), is the marble lavatory existing in the sacristy, with scrolls and anthropomorphic mask.
