Also already constant in the Visits of 1534, the church of San Bento of the Cortiço was founded in an unknown time. According to Túlio Espanca, in 1424 there was already a hermitage in São Bento da Aldeia da Talha, the primitive name of this village, which may have been later cured, giving rise to a parish church.
Rua Cova da Onça, São Bento do Cortiço
Of simple and sober facade, this church surprises mainly, in the interior, by the disproportionate greatness of its collateral altars, of colored Marble of Estremoz, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and the Souls. They are from the final phase of Rococo, about 1780 according to Túlio Espanca, and show us various motifs, such as stylized eagles, aprons of palms or cherubim.
