The existing building is notoriously a reform of the seventeenth century, with some later elements, such as the bell tower, from the eighteenth century, or the bells, from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
The interior no longer has any element previous to the 17th century reformation, being of this height the lamellar of polychrome tiles of the nave, the stucco altarpieces of the side chapels or the marble pulpit, piece of good sculpture with circular box and square base.
However, in the nineteenth century, in 1829 and 1889, the chancel had two important works that removed many of the oldest elements. From this time the polychrome plasters allusive to the Holy Sacrament and the altarpiece, also in stucco, on a masonry background.

The date of the founding of this church is unknown, as it was known to have existed in 1534. Túlio Espanca thinks that it was built at the end of the 15th century, based on the cylindrical exterior of the main chapel, with typically Manueline characteristics. Another relatively archaic element is the main portal of the entrance, in marble, that presents / displays Renaissance aspect, of good technical and artistic execution.
