Its nave is of colonial origin, construction that was restored in the XVIII and XXI centuries after several damages. His style is neoclassical.
Inside is the first sculpted image of Christ of the country, the venerated Christ of May or Lord of the Agony, which is also the first known sculpture in Chile.
Declared National Monument in 1981.
