At the entrance we find three large wooden doors, which in high relief describe: The first, the foundation of the city, the destruction by the earthquake of May 18, 1875 and its reconstruction by the Law of the Santander State Assembly. The Second shows us the creation of the parish on November 13, 1734 by the Archbishop of Santafé de Bogotá Álvarez Quiñónez and the Bull of Pío XII on May 29, 1956, giving it the category of Cathedral of the Diocese. In the Third, he pays homage to the city, when it is elevated to its status as the capital of Norte de Santander by Law of the Constituent Assembly of July 24, 1910 and the Decree of Carlos II of May 18, 1792 that the mayor of Pamplona on April 21, 1793 declaring it ´´Very noble courageous and loyal Villa de San José de Guasimales ”.

It is a true architectural jewel where the pure Romanesque style predominates, its facade is clad in stone, a work carried out by Monsignor Pedro Rubiano Sáenz in 1975, when the centenary of the reconstruction of the city was celebrated.
