The construction dates from the beginning of the 18th century. On June 10, 1786, Antonio, son of Juan Esteban Ricaurte and María Clemencia Lozano, was born. This architectural gem has gone through misadventures that time has claimed for years. In 1968, the Minister of Defense, General Gerardo Ayerbe Chaux visited the house, it was enough for him to be in this venerated place so that inspired by his patriotic emotion he was inflamed by the desire to go to the defense of that sanctuary, to save the relic of threatened History of ruin.



He accepted the idea of ​​restoring the Casa de Ricaurte and immediately took charge of the work, with the laudable aim of establishing a weapons museum there and decorating the walls with the sublime scene of the action of San Mateo, trying to reproduce the authentic facade of the Hero's native house, which had been deformed in improper construction. In 1969, the restoration of the house began, carried out by the Colombian Air Force, directly by the Revolving Fund (FORFA) and the Ministry of Public Works; Since then FORFA has been responsible for its operation and administration, maintaining a good image at the National and International level, with the cultural information service for all those who visit it.
