In 1752 the site was owned by Captain Villegas, governor of Callao, and it had a single floor. In 1818 the Lobatón Laos family acquired it. Its current construction dates from the mid-19th century. At that time it belonged to General César Canevaro, who had a prominent role during the armed conflict with Chile in the period 1879-1883.

It is a two-story mansion with neoclassical lines, pure and refined. Its balconies and bars, and its strictly proportional environments, are a clear example of republican architecture.
It was the seat of the Legation of England, and then of Chile until the War of the Pacific.
