The Bank Austria Art Forum is an exhibition center at Freyung 8 in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City. The namesake Bank Austria is the main sponsor of the art forum. The former bank building has been in possession since 2010 and has also housed the Constitutional Court (Renngasse 2 entrance) since August 2012.
The building at Freyung 8, at the corner of Renngasse 2, was preserved from 1914 to 1921 as a bank building for the Austrian credit institute for trade and commerce based on designs by architects Ernst Gotthilf and Alexander Neumann. In 1980 the building was owned by the Landesbank, which just celebrated its 100th anniversary. For Anies of this anniversary and at the suggestion of the actor Heinz Conrads, designated exhibitions were held in the empty ticket halls. The first show The New Age was seen by around 28,000 visitors.
As well as further exhibition claims, rights of the state director general Franz Vranitzky, culture provisional to a permanent The architect Gustav Peichl experienced the contract to rebuild the art forum in 1988, the reopening took place in March 1989. Soon afterwards, the new right, Bank Austria, named the processes in the Bank Austria Kunstforum one. From the end of 1992 to the beginning of 1993, the building was rebuilt again and the exhibition area doubled, and the premises could no longer cope with the large number of visitors.
From 2002–2008 the exhibition house was called BA-CA Kunstforum, which operated as Bank Austria Creditanstalt.
In April 2005, the safe was opened in a separate vault of trust in the Bank Austria Art Forum Interests. Here, young, international art representation, the vault itself but also as a space for art education and intellectual debate. The design was based on designs by the architekturladen, which had already redesigned the museum shop in 2002.
In March 2008, as a result of the sale of Bank Austria and UniCredit Group, the renaming was published in the Bank Austria Art Forum. Ingried Brugger has been the director of the Kunstforum since 2000. The exhibition area is 1,120 m² and around 250,000 visitors are counted every year. With 223,879 visitors, the Bank Austria Kunstforum in 2008 took 20th place in the most-visited view of Vienna. The art forum contradicting exhibitions with emphasis on the painting of the classical modern, the avant-garde of the post-war period am responsible art.
UniCredit Bank Austria AG sold the building in which the art forum is located at the beginning of 2010 and sold it to a private investor. As it became known in spring 2010, the art forum was moved to premises near Seitzergasse in autumn 2011. The move was canceled in December 2010.
On August 20, 2012, the Constitutional Court, having moved from the Bohemian Court Chancellery, bought its business in the building; the entrance to the place of jurisdiction is around the corner at Renngasse 2.
