Undoubtedly the most panoramic lift in the port, the Artillery, inaugurated in 1893, allows access from the Plaza Weelwright or the Customs, in the plan to the Paseo 21 de Mayo and the Naval and Maritime Museum, in its upper part.
This elevator constitutes an urban landmark of great preeminence in the city, being clearly observable thanks to the open esplanade that the Plaza de la Aduana provides at the foot of the hill. It is also at this point where the urban appearance of Valparaíso changes, since from this square to the Playa Ancha sector the spatial rhythm of the hill-plan changes completely, giving way only to the Altamirano Avenue waterfront.
Being so open to the events of the city, the lower station of this elevator is an easily accessible furniture, which in turn contains a kiosk and bus stop. Regarding its architecture, the station is presented as a typically Buenos Aires construction, made of corrugated iron as an exterior covering and other elements, such as cornices and wooden windows.

There are several alternatives to get to Valparaíso:
By bus
The trip takes 1 hour 45 minutes from Santiago. Existing departures with a frequency of 15 minutes, the bus companies offer a good level of service and comfort.
By car
For those who wish to arrive by car from Santiago, they should take Route 68, the estimated travel time being 1 hour and 30 minutes.
For its part, the upper station of the Artillery Elevator ends at Paseo 21 de Mayo, which constitutes an open space to the amphitheater that creates the bay of Valparaíso and where you can admire the city and the port in all their splendor and color.
The place is also home to artisan trade that attracts many tourists.The upper station itself is structured by a dark corridor that opens at the arrival of the promenade. Formally, it is a closed space that does not pretend to be the protagonist of the space that surrounds it.
