The Castle of Coimbra was located in the city of the same name, parish of São Bartolomeu, county and district of Coimbra, in Portugal.
Now disappeared, it stood on a hill, in a dominant position on the town, on the banks of the Mondego river. In its walls began the fence of the village, franked, in the low zone, by the Door of the Almedina.
Situated in downtown coimbrã was, in the XII century, the most important of the three gates of the city. The fact that the arch, although of medieval origin, presents a closing in ogiva, is justified to have been object of reconstruction in the reign of D. Manuel.
