In the historic center of the village, this castle is representative of the medieval architecture of the 17th century, when it cooperated with the neighboring Castle of Alter Pedroso in the defense of this region.
After consolidation and restoration work begun in the 1950s, by the Directorate General of National Monuments and Buildings (DGEMN), with funds from the Casa de Bragança Foundation, the castle is now in a good state of repair, framed by a narrow garden lane.
