In 1932, the factory owner couple Martha and Karl Lemke on the street and the double property with access to the Obersee. On the advice of a friend, they turned to the renowned architect who was supposed to keep the building. In the spring of 1933 the Lemkes changed their house.
The L-shaped building is modest and lost, but it also relaxed the demands of the childless couple. The facade consists of red-colored coal-fired bricks, which, together with the flat roof, make the house idiosyncratic. Some of the inventory also came from Mies van der Rohe's studio or was made by his partner Lilly Reich.
The Lemke couple lived in their villa for only a few years. In May 1945, after the occupation of Alt-Hohenschönhausen by the Red Army, the family was heard to leave the house as quickly as possible. The surrounding region was designated as a restricted area and Villa Lemke was used as a garage and storage area. Since the house up to this point was a deliberate war, the first renovation work followed in the right years, but without any notable success, since it was available. Until the turnaround, the house was used as a laundry and canteen for the employees of the MfS. The garden was concreted over and used as a parking lot. In 1990 the district of Hohenschönhausen became the real MfS house and the knowledge was renamed to Mies van der Rohe house. The necessary renovation rights in the years 2000 to 2002. Since 1994 there is a sculpture in the garden of the house by the Berlin artist Ruth Baumann. The title of the work is top view a the edge.
