Constructed in 1872, for a long period it was used as a loading dock. From there, the saltpeter was shipped in barges, which were in charge of transporting the ships that remained on tour in the bay. The unloading of supplies, merchandise and passengers that came to the city was also carried out. It also belonged to the Ferrocarriles Antofagasta-Bolivia company. He is currently waiting for the materialisation of the project –presented by the Gastronomic Profo- that will transform it into a tourist attraction with several palafito-style restaurants.

Its first name was Melbourne e Clark Saltpeter Pier. In 1855 it was called the official dock of the Antofagasta Salitres and Railways Company.

The Historic Wharf is a mandatory walk, but its entry into history is framed by the landing of the Chilean troops, commanded by Colonel Emilio Sotomayor on February 14, 1879, a milestone that marked the beginning of the War of the Pacific. At present it maintains all of its original facilities. Witnesses of the stories of iron structures and Oregon pine floors rest as mute there.
