This important work of colonial architecture was the stage, over the centuries, of important events in the history of Brazil. As an example, in the context of the Dutch Invasions of Brazil, it was in their dependencies that the Dutch signed in 1625 their surrender to Portugal.
The interior of the Pousada is dominated by its architecture, but also by the furniture and works of art present throughout the space.
The reception is a remarkable experience for the visitor, since it is carried out in an old altar of the XVIII century. The 79 rooms decorated with old artworks stand in what were the cells of the Carmelite friars. The telephone booth is inside a baroque confessional. The space also has two wooded cloisters, one with a swimming pool.
The Pousada do Convento do Carmo is located in the Historic Center of Salvador, in the state of Bahia, Brazil.
It is the first development of Pousadas de Portugal outside the country, and has been classified as a Historic Pousada.
