This protected area of rare beauty in the Algarve is crossed by the Ribeira de Menalva, which is supplied by some springs, which allows water to be contained in about 60% of its bed during the summer season, unlike most streams in this region. The occurrence of water allows the existence of a rich and abundant flora along the bed of the Ribeira, namely, ash trees, willows, tamarinds and puffs, among which are cane plantations, silvados and loendros.
