Recent geoarchaeological studies carried out in Rua da Barroca prove the occupation of this area in the 19th century. VIII BC attesting that the Phoenicians lived in Lagos 2800 years ago. Archaeological findings have proved that the occupation of this territory by the Phoenicians will be as old as the foundation of the 1st temple in Carthage.
One of the most typical streets of Lagos, mainly due to its arches. Prior to 1960 it bordered the river as part of the defensive system of the city walls.
